Definition

The net flow of subsurface water is directed toward the water table.

Description

A portion of subsurface water, including water in the unsaturated and saturated zones, that is discharged at the land surface.

Why is a discharge area important?

A discharge is groundwater that can be abstracted. It is also groundwater that can interact with surface water.
